The Kati Roll Company is opening an East Village outpost on Second Avenue between East 7th Street and St. Mark's Place on Monday, November 14th—and they're giving away free rolls to kick off their grand opening.
Kati Rolls are a popular street food from Kolkata, India. Originally the rolls were made of skewer-roasted kebab wrapped in paratha, a flaky, buttery unleavened bread—but now they come with plenty of protein offerings, including chicken, beef, shrimp, and veggies and can come wrapped in roti instead. All the rolls come with lime cilantro chutney and pickled onions.
From noon to 2 p.m. on Wednesday, November 16th, the Indian fast food restaurant will be offering free chicken and aloo rolls while supplies last.
They've also added some new selections to their menu, including custom staff rolls made by employees and a Kosha Mangsho Roll, which includes slow-cooked pulled goat meat, red onions, bird-eye chillies and lime juice wrapped in a handmade flatbread.
And they're rolling out a new lassi menu, featuring a creamsicle-esque Orange Blossom Lassi, a Kessar Pista (with saffron and pistachio), and a Mishti Dai Lassi made of fermented sweet yogurt and a reduction of date-palm sugar.
The new location—which is bigger than their other downtown location on Macdougal Street—seats 18 people. The company also plans on expanding further uptown, with a Columbia University location planned for the near future.
The Kati Roll Company's East Village location will be located at 128 Second Avenue in Manhattan.
