It's not the ideal weekend for traipsing around outdoors, but the LIC Flea's hosting a cheese festival that might be worth getting wet for. On Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. they're putting on The Big Cheese Event in partnership with Queens food blog Chopsticks and Marrow. Expect "The Cheese Guy, Whats the Dillaz unique (i.e. reuben) Quesadillas, Rib in a Cups' rich waffle mac & cheese, Cugini Paninis' cheese loaded grilled sandwiches, [and] cheesy laden pierogi from Taste of the Ukraine" per organizers.

Grand Central Oyster Bar's 14th annual Oyster Frenzy unfolds this Saturday at the historic restaurant. Beginning at noon, stop by for chef's demos, shucking competitions, and sixteen varieties of oysters, half from the East coast and half from the West. The public can compete in "Slurp Off" competitive eating events, as well as "Beer Shucking," where you try to open all the bottles in a case of beer faster than your competitors.

Sunday Roast at The Shakespeare (Facebook)

Whole roasted animals and...karaoke...are on tap at Sycamore Flowershop & Bar on Saturday. Korean BBQ eatery Insa Brooklyn is doing a Pig & Goat Roast at the Ditmas Park space as a collaboration with Fleishers Craft Butchery that includes spit-roasted, pasture-raised animals, sauces and sides, and drinks. They have three entry times (1, 3 or 5 p.m.) and a $30 ticket includes food, a pint of beer and two raffle tickets to win stuff like karaoke time at Insa, knives, flower crowns and other prizes.

Chilly weather and rainy skies call for holing up in a cozy subterranean bar with a mug of ale and some hearty roasted foods to fill your belly. Satisfy these cravings Sundays at The Shakespeare, which is kicking off traditional, British family-style roasts beginning at 11:30 a.m. and running 'til 7 p.m. The restaurant offers a choice of three different meats (or a vegetarian nut roast) accompanied by veggies, roasted potatoes, Yorkshire pudding and "customary condiments" for $19 per person. For reservations, email [email protected] or call 646.837.6779.
