The atmosphere is stacked, stuck and sticky. As expected, a Bermuda High has formed over the western Atlantic. Overlaying that surface high is an upper level ridge. That positioning means the Bermuda High isn't going to move anytime soon, so we are in for several days of steamy weather. This afternoon's high will only reach the mid 80s, but with the dew point temperature approaching the mid 70s, the city will be under a heat advisory from this afternoon through tomorrow evening.
Tomorrow will be a bit warmer than today, with the high expected to reach the upper 90s. But the real heat will be in place on Friday and Saturday when the highs look to climb into the lower to mid 90s. The extreme humidity will make it feel more like the lower 100s both days. Sunday's high will probably be in the upper 80s to near 90 with little let up in the humidity.
The deep layer of humidity has the lowest several miles of the atmosphere nearly saturated. Combined with the summer heat, this means even the slightest disturbance will set off scattered showers and thunderstorms. With an upper level ridge in place and the jet stream way to the north, there are no winds to push those storms around, so heavy rainfall is likely where those storms occur. Showers and thunderstorms are likely, especially in the afternoons and early evenings, every day from now through Sunday or possibly Monday.
