A stranger sexually assaulted a little girl in a lower Manhattan building apartment building, police say. And now the authorities hope the public can help them identify the suspect.

According to the NYPD, the incident happened around 8 p.m. in the Lower East Side on Saturday, July 2nd. The male suspect "approached the 6 year-old female victim inside an apartment building on Henry Street on the 1st Floor stairwell. The individual proceeded to expose his penis and rub it on the victim's face."

Police released surveillance video of the suspect, who was wearing a red t-shirt, black baseball hat and shorts:

Anyone with information in regards to this incident is asked to call the NYPD's Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or for Spanish, 1-888-57-PISTA (74782). The public can also submit their tips by logging onto the Crime Stoppers website or by texting their tips to 274637 (CRIMES) then entering TIP577.
