Two men tried to rob a check cashing business in Bushwick Tuesday afternoon, deploying batteries and an unknown liquid as weapons before threatening to blow it up.

According to the NYPD, the men entered a Pay-O-Matic at 1756 Bushwick Avenue shortly before 4 a.m. Tuesday and passed the 43-year-old female attendant a note demanding money before spraying the liquid at her through a glass partition window. Moments later, one of the robbers began throwing batteries wrapped with tape at the window and threatened to set the Pay-O-Matic on fire and blow it up if the attendant refused to hand over cash.

The woman refused, and both men left the location empty-handed.

The NYPD is now searching for the two would-be robbers, the first of whom is described as a man, 25 to 30 years old, approximately 200 lbs, wearing dark colored clothing, a hardhat, and blue gloves. The second suspect is described as a 25 to 30-year-old man, 175 lbs, wearing a blue hooded sweater, white mask, and blue gloves. Video of the attempted robbery and battery attack has been released.

Anyone with information in regards to this incident is asked to call the NYPD's Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or for Spanish, 1-888-57-PISTA (74782). The public can also submit their tips by logging onto the Crime stoppers website at WWW.NYPDCRIMESTOPPERS.COM or by texting their tips to 274637 (CRIMES) then enter TIP577.
