Police are searching for an SUV driver who killed a 62-year-old Bronx woman early Sunday. It was the fourth time a driver killed a pedestrian or cyclist this weekend.
According to the NYPD, officers responded to a 911 call about a pedestrian who was hit by a driver at 1:19 a.m. on Sunday, June 12th. At the intersection of East Gun Hill Road and White Plains Road, police officers found Sharon Smith, 62, "lying on the roadway with severe trauma about the body."
Smith was pronounced deceased at Montefiore Hospital. The NYPD Highway Unit's Collision Investigation Squad found that Smith had been trying to cross East Gun Hill Road when she was struck by the driver of a dark colored SUV going east on East Gun Hill Road. The driver never stopped.
Police released surveillance video of the SUV, in hopes the public can help them identify the car and driver:
Anyone with information in regards to this incident is asked to call the NYPD's Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or for Spanish, 1-888-57-PISTA (74782). The public can also submit their tips by logging onto the Crime stoppers website at WWW.NYPDCRIMESTOPPERS.COM or by texting their tips to 274637 (CRIMES) then enter TIP577.
