The struggle for warm May weather continues. Only four of the first seventeen days of the month have been warmer than normal and we are on pace to have the fourth coldest May since records began in 1869. Quite a turnaround from a year ago, when Central Park recorded its second warmest May.
The cool weather pattern will continue today and tomorrow as a high pressure system over northern Quebec gives us an easterly wind off the ocean. That easterly breeze will keep today's high to the mid 60s with a mix of sun and clouds. It might get a degree or two warmer tomorrow. Both days will have a slight chance of sprinkles or light rain as a mid-level trough slowly passes across the region. The air is just too dry to produce any significant precipitation, however.
Friday could be our first warmer-than-normal day in almost a week. The upper level low and the surface high should both move eastward, letting the sun come out and allowing the temperature to rise to the mid 70s. That won't last long as Saturday is shaping up to be cloudy, cool, and rainy as a storm moves up the coast.
