Thirteen days. The daily average temperature in Central Park has been below average for thirteen consecutive days. But that should change today as a high pressure system has replaced the cut-off low that gave us cool, cloudy weather for the past week. Look for lots of sun, a gusty westerly breeze, and a high in the lower 70s this afternoon.
High pressure will be the predominant weather maker for most of this week. Clear skies and very little moisture in the air will make for ideal radiational cooling conditions away from the city tonight. The temperature could drop close to freezing on eastern Long Island, the mid-Hudson Valley and interior Connecticut. But it won't be nearly that cold in the city itself, where the low will only drop to 50 degrees.
A little upper level disturbance is expected to pass through the area tomorrow, interrupting the clear skies and giving us a very slight chance of sprinkles. Tuesday's clouds will keep the high to the mid 60s. Warmer weather, with highs in the lower 70s, and more sun than clouds will return for Wednesday and Thursday. The next chance for significant rain will be Friday or Friday night.
