Two Connecticut residents allegedly scaled the Brooklyn Bridge early this morning to get the ultimate Instagram—but instead, they got arrested.
Police said that Sean Cody, 26, and Scott Lockett, 24, from Southport and New Canaan, respectively, were charged with criminal trespassing and reckless endangerment this morning after they were arrested at 6 a.m.
The two reportedly climbed up a beam stretching above the pedestrian walkway on the bridge, but were spotted by a police officer, who ordered them down. They apparently said that they were trying to get a good angle from which to take a picture of the sunrise over the city.
In 2014, the Department of Transportation installed barriers on the bridge to dissuade people from climbing it, but this is just the latest incident in which those barriers have proved useless. They were installed after two German artists managed to get to the top of the bridge and replace the American flags there with white flags, but selfie-seekers still made the climb—and one was arrested and extradited from Tennessee after his #adventureaddiction selfie atop the bridge went viral.
NYPD officers themselves, meanwhile, enjoy city-sanctioned trips to the top of the bridge, as part of training exercises. How does that compare to your job perks?
