A police officer responding to a call in the Bronx gunned down a "friendly" pitbull who ran out of an apartment to greet him with his tail wagging, according to the pet's owner.

The Daily News reports that 42-year-old Bronx resident Yvonne Rosado's 4-year-old pitbull Spike was fatally shot by a cop on February 13th. The officer and three other cops were reportedly responding to a domestic violence call at a different apartment on Rosado's floor. When Rosado opened the door to see what was going on, her dog ran out with his tail wagging. "I was screaming, ‘He’s friendly! He’s friendly!" she told the tabloid, but it was to no avail.

Graphic video surveillance, embedded below, caught the cop firing at the dog, and later shows a distraught Rosado running after police:

"He was still wagging his tail as he was dying. It's the worst thing," Rosado told CBS 2, adding that she was so upset she followed the officers as they left. "They jumped on top of me—three men. I'm in my undergarments in the hallway."

Rosado's 16-year-old neighbor also witnessed the shooting, and her mother says she is traumatized. "I heard the cops had to go to the hospital for ringing ears, but my daughter has to go to psychiatric therapy for this,” Irma Sue Santiago told the Daily News, adding, "What if he had missed the dog and shot my daughter?"

Rosado, who says she was dancing around her apartment with Spike before he was shot, has filed a notice of claim against the city, and plans to file a grievance with the Civilian Complaint Review Board. She says that the cop did not seem remorseful after he killed her dog. "He was just cold and callous,” she said. “He treated my dog as if he was old furniture being thrown away.”

The NYPD told reporters they were reviewing the incident.
