Amid an ever-coarsening and thoroughly-nasty presidential campaign, Saturday Night Live has been able to chisel and focus their political humor, resulting in increasingly funny political cold opens every week. Last week they had Jason Sudeikis return as Mitt Romney and Bobby Moynihan's defeated Chris Christie bowing to Trump; this week, we got Jay Pharaoh's masterful Ben Carson getting "positively turnt" for Darrell Hammond's Trump, Trump yelling at his supporters, “Guys, what did I say? Not this one! This is one of the good ones!”, and best of all, the return of Larry David as the pajama-loving Bernie Sanders.

Watch as he explains his core demographic ("a very diverse group of white people"), apologizes for his passionate supporters' use of Facebook, and reveals the truth behind his baggy suits. And kudos to David for really committing to Sanders' arm flailing and calling Jake Tapper "Tappa."

While Hammond is a consummate professional who never needs to go too big with his Trump impression (which says quite a lot about how much material he's had to work with), we want to give extra praise to Pharaoh, whose demented Carson has gotten sillier and sillier as the campaign has dragged on. Having dropped out of the race and now endorsed Trump, we may not see Carson again, so this was a very fitting send-off for one of the surprisingly nuttiest (in a non-racist, non-Trump way) figures to emerge from this campaign.

Or who knows, maybe Trump will ask him to be his veep, and we'll get lots more knife threats.
