It was cute while it lasted but, except for a few flakes here and there, the snow is pretty much over for the day, and perhaps even for the season. Before this morning's dusting a little over 31 inches of snow had fallen on Central Park this winter. Of course, almost all of that snow fell on one day back in January. Were it not for that blizzard this winter would have been one of the least snowiest on record.
As the snow departs dry air arrives. Gusty northeasterly winds will make for a brisk afternoon with wind chills in the lower 20s, but the actual high should reach the upper 30s. If this cool weather is not to your liking note that there will be a gradual warming this weekend. Saturday's high should be in the lower 40s and we could hit the upper 40s on Sunday.
The real warming begins on Monday when a summer-like Bermuda High builds off the southeastern coast. It's too early for summer heat, but look for highs to reach the mid 50s on Monday, mid 60s on Tuesday, and upper 60s on Wednesday. A mid-week cold front will cool us down a bit, like highs within a couple degrees of 60, but there is no cold air in the extended forecast.
