A cold front passed through the city last night, sweeping away any moisture but also sweeping in some much colder air. This afternoon's temperatures are a battle between cold air arriving behind the front and brilliant late-winter sunshine. The winner of that battle is going to be the wind, as it should warm only to the upper 30s, and the wind chill will make it feel a good ten degrees colder than that.
The ultra dry air will allow the temperature to drop into the lower 20s in the city overnight and into the teens elsewhere. After that cold start, Saturday's high should be able to climb into the lower-to-mid 40s as the center of high pressure draws near and the wind calms down. The high will be to our east by Sunday, and that means a warm southerly breeze and a warm up into the upper 50s.
Warm weather will continue for at least the first part of next week. Leap Day, the last day of climatological winter, should see temperatures climb to the upper 50s and perhaps even lower 60s, although we may have to put up with morning showers. March is expected to arrive with a mix of sun and clouds and temperatures in the mid 50s on Tuesday. More significant weather might be in store later next week, but it is too soon for details.
