The NYPD Hate Crimes Task Force is searching for a man who assaulted a subway rider on Friday night at the Church Avenue station in Flatbush, Brooklyn. Police say the victim, a 44-year-old white man, was exiting the Q train around 9:45 p.m. when a black man in his 40s jumped him from behind, punched him in the face, and yelled, "Cracka, you don't belong here!" The NYPD says the attack appears to have been unprovoked.
After being knocked to the ground, the victim says his assailant tried to kick him. When the victim's fiancée tried to intervene, she was elbowed in the back of the head.
A witness tells Ditmas Park Corner that the attacker "had a beard and wore a hooded top, along with a black cap with a crown-like symbol." He also says the victim's fiancée chased the man out of the subway station, and that he "spit in her face as he fled."
One police source tells the Daily News that the suspect also shouted, "Someone get his white cracka ass off the floor. It’s a black neighborhood... You don’t belong here." The suspect fled the station to points unknown.
An NYPD spokesman tells us the victim sustained bruising to his right eye and a bloody nose, but refused medical attention at the scene. No arrests have been made and the investigation is ongoing.
