A 27-year-old man was slashed in the face during an argument at a Harlem subway station this weekend. This was the fourth subway slashing to take place in the past week.
Police say the incident happened around 3 a.m. on the southbound 2 platform at the 110th Street station near Lenox Avenue early Sunday morning. The victim was waiting for the train when he got into an argument with a woman. The woman left the station, then returned with another man, who allegedly slashed the victim in the face with a sharp object.
The victim was transported to Mount Sinai St. Luke’s Hospital in stable condition. Cops add that no arrests have been made yet, and the investigation is ongoing.
That makes this the sixth subway slashing so far this year, compared with three over the same period in 2015. That includes three that happened this week: 71-year-old Carmen Rivera was slashed in the face on a D train in Greenwich Village on Monday; 32-year-old Christopher Santiago was slashed on a 6 train as it passed through Harlem on Tuesday night; and Ras Alula Nagarit was arrested for allegedly slashing a 29-year-old woman on a 3 train also on Tuesday night.
The NYPD is reportedly considering more drastic measures to try to curb the latest uptick in subway violence.
