The MTA is contemplating a complete shutdown of L Train service between Brooklyn and Manhattan in the coming years, and while tensions are running high at the Bedford Avenue stop, other high-traffic stations along the line are also coming to grips with the possibility. During Thursday afternoon's rush hour, commuters shared their thoughts on the potential shutdown plans at Broadway Junction, a major transit hub and L train stop in East New York.
Full-scale repairs on the L's East River Canarsie Tube, which was flooded during Hurricane Sandy, are slated to begin in late 2017 and could disrupt service between Brooklyn and Manhattan for three years, depending on how the MTA decides to play it. Over 300,000 New Yorkers use the L each weekday, and a patchwork of shuttle buses, extra M trains, and longer G trains may be their only options while the work is performed.
