First they gave up tipping, now they're ditching fine dining. Well, shifting their focus. Daniel Humm and Will Guidara, the powerhouse duo behind Eleven Madison Park, have revealed to the Wall Street Journal that their next project will be a fast casual eatery called Made Nice, opening in the Flatiron at some point next year. Unlike a meal at their schmancy tasting menu spot—which hovers just below $300 per person these days—the new eatery will offer meals in the $10 to $15 range.
There'll be hints of the mothership at Made Nice, which'll have EMP sous chef Danny DiStefano in the kitchen. He'll be turning out healthy-sounding things like grain and vegetable plates; "maybe it’s grilled cucumbers, potato salad, salmon and some greens," Humm dangles. They'll even kinda look like things from the tasting menu, since they'll be served on stoneware made by the same designer at EMP's dishes.
Humm and Guidara are the next in an increasing number of chefs who are trying out the Danny Meyer angle to success. Marc Forgione is an investor in Taquitoria and All'onda's Chris Jaeckle is does his sushi burrito thing at Uma Temakeria. They'll have to sell a boatload of grain bowls to mimic Meyer's success, so luckily they've got the power of Michelin behind them.
