A driver jumped a curb in Queens early this morning, slammed into two pedestrians, continued into a Crown Fried Chicken restaurant, and fled on foot, cops said. The driver of the white 2001 Infiniti sedan veered into the two men, ages 23 and 22, at about 12:50 a.m. on Springfield Boulevard at Hempstead Avenue in Queens Village.
Paramedics drove the victims to North Shore University Hospital in Manhasset for treatment of their leg injuries. Both are in stable condition. Police have not identified or arrested the driver, and an NYPD spokeswoman did not know whether anyone was inside the restaurant at the time of the incident. She said she had no indication of what may have caused the crash.
The FDNY requested an emergency structural inspection of the fried-chicken storefront this morning. No one answered the phone at a number listed for the business.
The intersection of Springfield and Hempstead had been the scene of 25 crashes from the beginning of the year through last night. The crashes injured 11, three pedestrians and eight car occupants, police data show.
