Brrr, a cold day is finally upon us. Today is going to be, by far, the coldest day of November with the high only reaching the lower 40s. Being the coldest day of the month is not a difficult feat given that all but two days have been warmer than normal. It is going to feel colder than it actually is, both because a strong northwesterly breeze will produce wind chills in the lower 30s and because we haven't seen temperatures this low since since late March.

The dew point is in the teens and the wind is going to calm down overnight so there will be nothing to stop the temperature from dropping rapidly after sunset. A freeze watch is in effect for the city tonight as we head to a low near 30 degrees. A freeze would happen right on time as tomorrow is the average date of first freeze for the past 15-20 years.

If the temperature doesn't fall below freezing tonight it will be a while before we get a second chance. The same high pressure system responsible for today's cold air will move eastward over southern Canada tomorrow and that will lead to a gradual week-long warming. Tuesday should warm to the mid 40s and the high Wednesday is expected to be close to 50 degrees.

Thanksgiving looks to be mild with a high in the upper 50s and we could the lower to mid 60s on Friday. No significant weather is expected until Saturday, when the next cold front is expected to arrive. Even so, that front currently doesn't look like much of a weather maker so there should not be any local weather-related traffic issues for the holiday weekend.
