A 59-year-old pedestrian who was struck by a driver in Flushing on Sunday has died from his injuries, police say.

The incident occurred just before 5 p.m., when officers responded to emergency calls about a man who'd been hit and was lying in the intersection of College Point Boulevard and 41st Avenue. He was taken to New York-Presbyterian Hospital in Queens in critical condition. On Wednesday, he was pronounced dead.

Police say the driver was identified as a 70-year-old man driving a 2004 Honda Odyssey, who hit the victim as he was driving northbound on College Point Boulevard. He remained at the scene, and an investigation on any wrongdoing is ongoing.

The exact circumstances of the fatal collision remain unclear. This is the 13th pedestrian to be killed by a driver since Halloween. The crash occurred two days after a woman was killed in Flushing by a casino bus driver, and two days before the NYPD announced a crackdown on jaywalking, specifically in Flushing, which some safe streets advocates say is evidence of a "strong anti-pedestrian bias."
