The record high for today is 74 degrees set in 1948. As of 11 a.m. it was 71 in Central Park. Whether we warm four more degrees to set a new record it entirely up to the clouds at this point. A few breaks of sun would do the trick but the latest forecasts have us falling just short of the record. Still, if none of our other heat coping suggestions work for you, it will be plenty warm enough to enjoy lunch outside in early November.
A cold front passing through the city this evening promises cooler, drier weather for the weekend. Saturday's high in the lower 60s will be only 5-7 degrees warmer than normal. If you've forgotten what November weather should be like, wait until Sunday and Monday when the highs are expected to be in the mid to upper 50s. Warmer weather, and a couple chances for rain, will return for most of next week.

November will be warm
Catch that normal weather while you can as there is no expectation of a cold air outbreak anytime soon. The extended outlook from the National Weather Service has the eastern half of the country staying warm for the next two weeks. The daily high temperature forecasts from the NWS, the Weather Channel and AccuWeather also indicate above normal temperatures will be the rule for the next couple of weeks.
Beyond that forecasting daily temperatures is a bit of a fool's game, but AccuWeather has bravely taken up the challenge by saying the first significant cold spell of the season will happen in early December. Or, at least they did earlier this morning. Between the time I made this graph and wrote this post they changed their forecast and are now predicting highs in the mid 50s for the first week of December.
