On Saturday night, handfuls of lucky partygoers boarded a yellow school bus in front of a 19th century church on Manhattan's Upper West Side. The windows of the bus were taped with paper, and it hurtled out of the city toward Yonkers, where it eventually rolled to a stop outside of Alder Manor, a 20-acre, 72-room estate built as the weekend home for the copper magnate William Boyce Thompson.
Thompson and his family departed the property long ago, and the stately Manor is now used as a venue for weddings and other periodic celebrations. Saturday's party, christened You Are So Lucky, was a reprisal of the infamous Danger Parties from the early aughts, with partners this time including JunXion and Balktick.
Photographer Tod Seelie tells us that of the handful of performers, Feather Bone Black stole the show, and that the Sunnyside Social Club brought a raucous dance party to the atmospheric grounds. The long-abandoned dormitories were were filled with DJs and dance floors, and upper rooms were unlocked throughout the night. One couple even got engaged.
