The Halloween equivalent of Ebenezer Scrooge stole three buckets of toys and candy off a porch on Staten Island's South Shore on Saturday, and cops are now investigating the brazen heist.
The Staten Island Advance reports that the unidentified woman and a small, genie-pants-wearing girl arrived that afternoon at Holly Jones's house in Huguenot while Jones was out trick-or-treating with her husband and their 8-year-old son. The Joneses left three buckets out on their porch, two containing candy and snacks, and another full of toys, along with a sign that said, "Save some for others. Don't take more than 2!"
They came home to find the toy bucket empty and the other two containers, as well as the signs, gone. A review of surveillance footage shows the tentative approach, the daughter's innocent-seeming crouch to the toy bucket, then the sudden sprint to the car, the woman's arms loaded up with goodies.

Who does that? (Holly Jones/Facebook)
In a Facebook plea for help finding the culprit, Jones wrote, "How does someone take off with all the candy, the containers they were in and the non-food items I did for the Teal Pumpkin Project?? No class or respect."
The Teal Pumpkin Project is a campaign to provide non-food gifts for trick-or-treaters with food allergies. Jones told the Advance she was inspired to participate by the death of a classmate of her son's from a food allergy. She added that she had difficulty explaining why someone would steal all the Halloween treats.
"My son is 8, and he's like, 'Who would do that? Why would people do that?'" she said. "And I have no explanation for him other than people are bad."
Jones has filed a police report. A neighbor's security camera picked up the getaway car: a black GMC Acadia SUV. The NYPD has not so far released a request for media attention about the theft.
