Beloved Bed-Stuy bakery SCRATCHbread will shutter for good after service tomorrow, which is sad news indeed for anyone lucky enough to have sampled their egg sandwiches and other delectable treats.
Owner Matthew Tilden informed fans of the bakery's impending demise earlier this month, citing, in poetry form, financial woes and exhaustion as cause for the closure. SCRATCHbread will be open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. tomorrow, and then never again. "It's bullshit I have to destroy the most important thing in my life," he said in his email, adding, "After the flour has settled/I'll still be there with fucking bells on/waiting to give you another bite of something delicious." SCRATCHbread's closure follows on the heels of the closure of Bed-Stuy staple Do Or Dine, which shut down last month.

SCRATCHbread debuted on Bedford Avenue about five years ago, gifting the neighborhood with the aforementioned egg sandwich, which we once crowned Brooklyn's best. Their grits and pecan rolls are also not to be missed.
