A woman was found dead with neck bruising in the entrance of a Chelsea apartment building this morning.
Police say the woman, whose name has not been released yet, was found around 8:30 a.m. in the vestibule of the five-floor walk-up building at 221 W. 16th Street. "Her feet were holding the front door open, and her head was by the corner of the door frame," an EMT told the Post at the scene.
The woman was taken to Lenox Hill Hospital, where she was declared dead. Cops say the medical examiner will determine the official cause of death, but investigators told the Post that it is "a possible strangulation," due to the marks on her neck.
The Post adds that "a man waved down the ambulance from the street" then fled; police then showed a photo of the man to potential witnesses in the area trying to ID him.
Update: The Daily News has now identified the victim as Long Island dermatologist Kiersten Cerveny. Her father told the News, "She was supposed to stay with a friend [in Manhattan]...[Her husband] hasn’t heard from her." The paper adds that the husband, who is also a dermatologist, is being questioned by police.
