Anyone who's ever traversed the dystopian hellmouth that is the area under the Brooklyn Bridge knows it's in dire need of a makeover. But how do you fix something that was born so fundamentally broken? "¯\_(ツ)_/¯" says the city. "Why don't you tell us?"

The area is not exactly the most welcoming for visitors spat from their selfie-filled stroll across the Brooklyn Bridge, where they already narrowly avoided getting crushed under the wheels of a BMX bike. The area is surfeit with exhaust, construction, traffic cones and general mayhem, and while this is probably an apt representation of New York generally, it doesn't have to be this way. A proposal put forth in March included such whimsical offerings as a cafe INSIDE the Brooklyn Bridge, because there is no decor more artisanal than the bones of the many workers who died during its construction.

But that proposal covers just the first half of the area's rehabilitation—there's still so much more to do!

If you're eager to share your vision for the redevelopment (Water park! Aviary!), drop by a public workshop on Monday, hosted by Community Board 2’s Park Committee and the Downtown Brooklyn Partnership. The area currently under consideration is the space under the BQE from the Brooklyn and Manhattan Bridges to Commodore Barry Park, and all Brooklyn residents are invited to attend.

The workshop will be held on Monday, September 21 from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Whitman Willoughby Senior Center at 105 North Portland Avenue. Light refreshments will be served, and you can bring a friend! Click here to RSVP and for more information.
