A Cat Cafe Is Opening In Brooklyn This <strike>Caturday</strike> Saturday

So far, Manhattan has been the only beneficiary of the booming cat cafe business but starting this weekend, Brooklyn's getting its own rendition at The Cat's Meow, the borough's first kitty-centric establishment. The Fort Greene cafe is not going to be permanent, unfortunately, but the cafe will open this Saturday, September 19th and run for over a month until October 24th.
Inside, expect lots of furry friends looking for a forever home—the cafe is a collaboration between Brooklyn Bridge Animal Welfare Coalition (BBAWC), a forthcoming pet store called Who's Your Doggy and WeRuVa Pet Food—plus snacks and coffee from Red Lantern Bicycle and Brooklyn Sweet Spot.
Like the other cat cafes that have been popping up in NYC, visitors will get to interact with the kitties in half hour time slots ($5 for adults, free for kids under three) with the hope they'll make a long-lasting connection and take one of the felines home. A range of adoptable cats will be acting cute on site, including adults and kittens, plus you can watch two new mommy cats nurse their adorable newborns via webcam at the cafe. If you fall in love—HOW COULD YOU NOT—adoption fees are just $100 and include spaying/neutering, vaccinations and microchipping.
The Cat's Meow joins forthcoming LES cat cafe Koneko and Little Lions, which founder Erin McShane tells us will finally open in SoHo in November or December. Gothamist loves its cats but where is the dog cafe that NYC deserves?
354 Myrtle Avenue, website. The Cat’s Meow is open from Saturday, September 19th to Saturday, October 24th. Public hours are Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday, Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Fridays from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.
