The neighborhood that's home to numerous eateries serving distress plum will soon be the home of the Museum of Food and Drink, which is opening its first exhibition in Williamsburg this fall. On October 28th, MOFAD will open MOFAD Lab, a satellite version of the museum proper that'll house one exhibit at a time, beginning with Flavor: Making It & Faking It, a "multisensory take" on the flavor industry, the Times reports.
"In Flavor, visitors will go on an adventure through the physiology, science, history and culture behind flavor—tasting, smelling and touching the entire way," according to the museum.
The 5,000-square-foot space on Bayard Street next to McCarren Park will be the first permanent space operated by MOFAD, which had previously demonstrated its cereal puffing gun as a teaser to its future offerings. The new exhibit will explore natural versus artificial, the history of vanilla, the secrets of MSG and the technology behind flavor science. The show will run through February 29th.
Mofad Lab is just a taste of the big plans founder Dave Arnold and executive director Peter Kim have planned. Eventually, the team hopes to open a 30,000-square-foot museum that would be home to three exhibits plus a restaurant. A certain prolific NYC restaurateur has made museum restaurants into destinations...just saying!
