A cold front passed through the city last night putting an end to five straight days of 90 degree weather. The longest heat wave of the year! While it has gotten cooler, it is going to take a few more hours before drier air arrives. That will leave us with a clammy, cloudy day with a slight chance of showers and a high in the lower 80s.
The forecast for the Labor Day weekend is about as good as it gets if you enjoy the outdoors. Saturday will be the coolest day of the weekend with a high in the lower 80s, which is actually a couple of degrees warmer than normal for early September. Sunday should warm to the mid 80s and we'll be in the upper 80s on Monday.
Despite school starting next week, don't think that summer heat is a thing of the past. Highs are expected to reach 90 degrees again on Tuesday and Wednesday and possibly again on Thursday.
With little rain lately and no significant rain expected for at least a weeks drought conditions are beginning to worsen and spread. All of Connecticut and Long Island and most of New Jersey are abnormally dry with some portions now experiencing a moderate drought.
