The Beauty Bar brand of martinis and manicures includes outposts all across the country including Las Vegas and Dallas, but that list no longer includes Brooklyn, as the chainlet closed their Park Slope outpost this week. Photographer Quyn Duong walked up to the shuttered space during a 5th Avenue bar crawl last night, observing that "the doors were locked, the space empty, and a For Rent sign posted in the window." An email to the bar's former manager Eliel Lucero revealed that their final night of service was August 31st.
The hybrid bar-salon had been open in its 5th Avenue digs since 2012, an expansion of the original East Village location that opened on 14th Street in 1995. Unlike the original, which founder Paul Devitt converted from an actual salon into a beauty "saloon," the Brooklyn outpost was a former coffee shop renovated into a glittery, retro-looking space that was more in the nightlife arena than a place to get your cuticles clipped.
We reached out to Beauty Bar's management to find out what caused the shutter and we'll update if we hear back.
