Actor Dylan Baker, who's had roles on The Good Wife and in films like Spider-Man 2 and Anchorman 2 and Planes, Trains & Automobiles, played a real-life hero yesterday after a fire broke out in the high-rise Hell's Kitchen apartment next to his. Baker got his family to safety, then tried to rescue his neighbor before firefighters arrived.

The fire broke out at around 4:30 p.m. yesterday on the 33rd floor of Baker's building (Manhattan Plaza, which is largely populated by artists and local actors) on West 43rd Street and 10th Avenue. "We had just returned home," the 55-year-old actor told ABC 7. "All of a sudden the alarm went off in the hall and I went out and there was smoke. So I went to her door and pounded on it and called her name."

The neighbor didn't respond, and Baker had to flee with his family. When firefighters arrived, they reportedly found her unconscious on her apartment floor—she was transported to New York Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center in critical condition. "She looked to be in pretty bad shape," Baker told NBC News. "My daughter won't get that image out of her head."

The FDNY was able to put the fire out in half an hour. They are still investigating what sparked it.
