The Bronx resident who is accused of killing one person in a double stabbing during a street fight over an umbrella has been charged with murder.
Jesus Santiago, 46, was arraigned in Manhattan Criminal Court on Saturday on charges of second-degree murder, attempted murder and assault. He apparently has a rap sheet that includes an attempted murder arrest in a Bronx shooting: "He’s the type of guy where you ask, 'Why is he still on the street?'" one police source told the News.
The incident happened just after 8 a.m. on Friday in front of a McDonald's at 125th Street and Lexington Avenue. Santiago and his girlfriend, 36-year-old Monica Hernandez, got into an argument with Orlando Rivera and Nancy Estevez over an umbrella. The News says Santiago became enraged after Rivera referred to Hernandez as "that bitch."
The News has video of the struggle over the umbrella, which starts with a tug of war and ends with the stabbing:
Santiago allegedly stabbed Rivera and Estevez multiple times with a box cutter; both were taken to Harlem Hospital, where Rivera was declared dead. Estevez remains in critical condition there.
