Patti Smith's stellar 2010 memoir Just Kids is getting the premium cable treatment—Showtime is adapting it into a miniseries.
The miniseries will be helmed by John Logan, who created the Showtime series Penny Dreadful. Initially, Logan was rumored to be developing a film version of the book, but it looks like Smith's taking advantage of this new golden age of television. "A limited series on Showtime will allow us to explore the characters more deeply, enabling us to develop stories beyond the book and allow a measure of unorthodox presentation," she said in a statement. "The medium of a television limited series offers narrative freedom and a chance to expand upon the themes of the book."
Smith's memoir focuses on her early years in NYC and her relationship with artist Robert Mapplethorpe, and though there's no news on cast yet, we can only speculate on who might play the main characters—Kristen Stewart? James Franco (again)? HARRY STYLES???? A girl can dream.
Anyway, no word on filming or release dates, but we suspect this'll be shot in Detroit or Des Moines or Boston, since NYC's dead now and everything.
