This summer Coney Island has been adorned by a slew of artists, all under the direction of curator Jeffrey Deitch and Thor Equities' Joseph Sitt. The latter owns most of Coney Island now, and very nearly shut down the beloved Ruby's until The People fought back. (Other small businesses weren't so lucky.) Now he's apparently trying to get some street cred by teaming up with art world impresario Deitch and an all-star roster of street artists.
But it's easy on the eyes, and Thursdays through Sundays the murals surrounded by the Smorgasburg vendors.
The outdoor museum, called Coney Island Walls, features work from Lee Quiñones, Lady Pink, Crash, Daze, Futura, Kenny Scharf, Shepard Fairey and Maya Hayuk. The walls were unveiled last month at 1320 Bowery Street in Coney Island—click through for a preview.
