Yesterday's high of 93 degrees was the warmest it has been in Central Park in nearly two years! It hasn't been this hot since the park topped off at 96 degrees on September 11th, 2013. Sunday was only the second day of this summer to reach 90 but we'll cross that mark again today and possibly again tomorrow. The timing couldn't be better in the sense that today through Wednesday are, statistically, the three warmest days of the year with average highs of 85 and lows of 70.
The dew points dropped slightly overnight so this afternoon won't be quite as uncomfortable as yesterday, but there is still a heat advisory in effect until early this evening, so take it easy out there. With this much heat and humidity we can't discount convective precipitation, but nothing is very organized as of now so there is only a slight chance of isolated showers or thunderstorms later today.
A slight chance of showers or thunderstorms continues into tomorrow as a weak cold front approaches from the Northern Plains. It should once again ">warm to near 90, or perhaps the low 90s, but with slightly less humidity.
Relief from the heat and humidity will arrive after the cold front passes on Tuesday night. Wednesday will be sunny, dry and mild with a high in the mid 80s. Mostly clear skies and highs in the lower to mid 80s look like they will continue through the weekend.
