The Greenpoint Avenue Bridge, which links Greenpoint and Queens, will be less terrifying for cyclists now that the DOT has installed a six-foot wide bike lane on the formerly scary-ass roadway. There's also a 4-foot-wide "buffer lane" to better keep cars and bikes away from each other.

The DOT completed the path at the end of June, a sure relief to the roughly 600 cyclists who traverse over Newtown Creek using the treacherous bridge each day.

"This critical piece of the bike network will now provide a safe connection between Brooklyn and Queens for hundreds of cyclists getting to work, or just enjoying a ride around town," DOT Commissioner Polly Trottenberg said in a statement.

The addition of the bike lanes required each traffic lane to be narrowed by one foot, and one Brooklyn-bound lane was removed as well.

The DOT will also add bike lanes to the equally harrowing Pulaski Bridge this year.
