A pedestrian has been hospitalized after being struck by a double-decker tour bus in Greenwich Village on Friday.

Police say the incident happened around 1:45 p.m. yesterday. Victim Devan Sipher, 50, was walking in the crosswalk on Sixth Avenue near W. Fourth Street when the City Sightseeing New York bus struck him as it was turning onto Sixth Avenue. The bus mangled one of his legs, according to witnesses.

"He really couldn't say his name because it was so, so much excruciating pain," witness Shante Service, who works nearby, told NBC. She added that he kept screaming "at the top of his lungs...When I looked under the bus, his leg was dislocated. I could see flesh and bone."

Sipher was transported to Bellevue Hospital in critical condition, but has reportedly been downgraded to serious condition. THe bus driver remained at the scene and no charges have been filed yet.

"We are aware of the accident this afternoon and deeply regret this very unfortunate incident,” a representative of bus operator Twin America said in the statement. "We are fully cooperating with the authorities while this accident is being investigated."
