There are few things we love more than semi-secret hot dog windows, so we're excited that exemplary tapas hotspot Huertas plans to operate a weekend takeout window serving their version of the classic American grilling season staple. No offense to people on liquid diets, but hot dogs trump bone broth in the East Village pop-up window competition.
Beginning this Saturday and Sunday through Labor Day, the restaurant will twist their typical pintxos during daytime hours to serve Basque-style hot dogs made with chistorra sausage, a variety of pork sausage seasoned with paprika. The Basque dog will be served in a soft Martin's potato roll and topped with aioli and a house-made piquillo mostardo, a mustard-type sauce made with the sweet chile peppers.

Also on offer, the restaurant's version of a Horchata slushie made in the "authentic Spanish style" using chufa, or what are commonly known as tiger nuts (heh). The team tells us other special hot dogs and side dishes are in the pipeline, so follow the restaurant on Twitter for updates.
Walk up visitors can scarf either of the items for $6 each or do a combo of any two for $10. The window will operate weekends from 11:30 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. at 107 1st Avenue.
