The Fourth of July is around the corner, but before you can gorge yourself on grilled meats and patriotism, you've got to eat between now and then. Fortunately for America, this is New York City, and in addition to restaurants from around the world, we have foodie gatherings that are out of this world. Read on for some options in planning your gastronomic future, and possibly the future of the human race.

On Tuesday evening, the Bushwick Starr hosts the second annual Taste of Bushwick festival at the massive Boar's Head distribution plant off of Morgan Avenue. The event starts at 6:30 pm and the deli meat purveyor will offer up bites alongside foodie fixtures such as Archie's Bar & Pizza, Braven Brewing, Fitzcarraldo, and Northeast Kingdom. Entry is $40 and tickets are on sale here. There will also be an after-party around the corner at Pine Box Rock Shop.

On Saturday, check out the Menu for Mars Supper Club at the Boiler in Williamsburg. Visiting collaborators will concoct dishes using dried ingredients to be sampled, documented, and shipped to NASA for reference in trying to colonize the big red planet. The project has been convening since late May, and this is the final event, so attendees will get to finish off all the ingredients in the pantry, and awards will be given out for best dishes. The shindig lifts off at 4 pm.

Next weekend, the Long Island City Flea is back on 46th Ave., with food vendors including the pit masters from Butcher Bar, and Bao Shoppe's Asian-American fusion offerings. The market is open Saturday and Sunday from 10 am to 6 pm.
