King of slice joints Joe's Pizza will be arriving on Williamsburg's Bedford Avenue this month, marking the third location of "The Greenwich Village Institution." Owner Joe Pozzuoli Jr. shared the news with Eater, who report that the pizzeria will take over the space at 216 Bedford Avenue at North 5th Street, formerly home to seedy dive bar The Plank. Pozzuoli says there won't be a Brooklyn markup, with a regular slice still going for $2.75.
Of course, Williamsburg already has two nearby "corner" slice joints in Anna Maria just off the L stop and beloved neighborhood pizzeria Vinnie's. But with all the tourist foot traffic/stumbling drunks on the Avenue these days it's unlikely either will see a dip in sales once Joe's debuts.

The NYC chainlet arrives amidst a frenzy of upscale changes in Williamsburg. Joe's will be located just down the block from other NYC chainlet Parm's forthcoming location, plus newish locations of Sweetgreen and Umami Burger. It'll also be a scant block from the forthcoming Whole Foods and the rumored Apple store.
While we're glad that this'll be a homegrown operation moving in and not some corporate bullshit, its still tough to see these dive bars go.
