An NYPD officer was arrested this morning after allegedly using credit card information belonging to a dead man she found on duty to purchase a $3,200 diamond ring. Only the finest for New York's Finest!
The officer, 30-year-old Ymmacula Pierre, allegedly stumbled upon a Citibank MasterCard that did not belong to her on July 14th of last year, while on duty in the East Village. According to court documents, Pierre was performing a wellness check at 12 East 14th Street, where she discovered the deceased body of a 65-year-old man who had previously been suffering from medical issues.
Prosecutors say Pierre contacted the dead man's relatives and vouchered some of his property, including the aforementioned MasterCard, as her job dictated. But a few days later, that credit card was used to purchase a $3,200 diamond ring at Zales, with Pierre's home address listed as its shipping information. While it's possible that the dead man's ghost wanted to give Pierre a nice gift as thanks for finding his body, it's probably more likely Pierre copied down the card information before vouchering it.
The deceased's relatives were alerted, and Pierre has since been arrested. She's been charged with grand larceny, identity theft, criminal possession of stolen property and official misconduct, plus it appears she's out an expensive piece of jewelry.
