The month is two-thirds over and this May is on pace to be one of the warmest and driest of its kind ever recorded in Central Park. Through yesterday the monthly temperature is 6.9 degrees warmer than average. If the warmth continues at that pace we'll break the 1991 record by nearly a degree. On the precipitation side only 0.32 inches of rain has fallen this month, putting us in second place if no rain falls in the next eleven days. While no rainfall through the end of the month is unlikely, it is going to take a long, steady rain or a big thunderstorm to bring the monthly total up to anywhere near normal.

A high pressure system moving across the region will keep us cool and dry today and most of tomorrow. The normal high for this time of year is in the low 70s but we'll only reach the upper 60s under sunny skies today and mid 60s under cloudy skies tomorrow. The National Weather Service is calling for a slight chance of showers later on Thursday but everyone else is saying we'll stay dry.

The weather for most of the Memorial Day weekend is shaping up to be very pleasant. Look for lots more sun than clouds from Friday through Sunday, with high temperatures falling at or above normal each day. Memorial Day itself presents the next chance at significant rainfall as a warm front approaches, but the forecast models have yet to converge on a consistent forecast. What the models to agree on is next week's heat. We should be warming into the humid mid to upper 80s next Tuesday through Thursday or Friday.
