Another day, another power play by restaurateur extraordinaire Danny Meyer. It appears the progenitor of Shake Shack has decided to enter the city's Food Hall Pantheon, taking over a 40,000-square foot space of the forthcoming Hudson Yards development, reports Crains. Rumored plans call for "several culinary options" at the street level space along West 30th Street near 10th Avenue.
Of course, we knew Meyer would be doing something in the development, having entered a partnership with developers back in 2012. "We love the irony that USE [Editor's Note: Union Square Events, Meyer's catering arm] was born seven years ago as 'Hudson Yards Catering'—and now one of our greatest opportunities to grow will be in Hudson Yards," Meyer said at the time. The partnership also called for private residential dining, catering and other activities within the Hudson Yards space.
If it comes to pass, the Michael Jordan-sized food hall would join an already packed lineup on the West Side of Manhattan. To the north, there's Gotham West Market and to the south there's Hudson Eats. And don't forget Anthony Bourdain's upcoming venture, which'll be about a mile away at Pier 57.
