Two men were shot—one fatally—outside of an Inwood nightclub early Sunday morning.
Tette, which opened in 2012, had hosted a Brazilian Carnival-themed party on Saturday night, the NY Times reports. 20 to 30 people were reportedly involved in a fight that broke out around the time the club shut down at 4:00 a.m. Shots were fired soon after.
Around 4:15 a.m., police responded to the scene, where Ernesto Santiago, 31, of the Bronx, had been shot in the chest. A 33-year-old man who has not be identified by the NYPD was also shot, in the groin. Santiago was taken to Montefiore Hospital "by private means," where he was pronounced dead upon arrival. The 33-year-old victim was taken to Barnabas Hospital in stable condition. The Daily News identifies him as one Luis Rodriguez.
According to the NY Times, three men and one woman were detained but not charged soon after the shooting, a half-mile north of Tette at the corner of West 218th and Broadway. The four detained clubgoers had sped away from the scene in a car, the News reports.
Fernando Macias, who lives near Tette, told the Times that it's typically loud outside the club on weekend nights, with lots of "drunk young people" behaving rowdily. But, "all the places around here are like that.”
The NYPD has not made any arrests, and the investigation is ongoing.
