Smorgasburg will be taking its talents to Coney Island this summer, opening up a pared-down version of its popular markets inside shipping containers. Thor Equities, which owns the site at 1320 Bowery Street, tapped the Brooklyn-based company to populate the area, which will also house a new art show with pieces of street art from the past 40 years, reports the Commercial Observer. The site—which isn't much more than an abandoned parking lot at the moment—is apparently being spruced up for the new tenants.

Not many details have been released yet, but there should be 12 food vendors, each operating out of their own shipping container. Brooklyn Flea co-founder Eric Demby told us he's still nailing down a few details, but he'll announce the lineup of vendors at some time tomorrow.

Thor has been responsible for much of the transformation at Coney Island, as they've been snatching up real estate and threatening historic buildings. They're also behind the ridiculously massive Wahlburgers chain that's slated to open nearby this summer. The neighborhood has undergone periods of rise and decline since its first development in the 1840s. Now it's poised to turn into a coastal Times Square, but with better food.
