Sometimes a six-figure-per-month apartment gets snapped up in an instant. Other times, those sunset views and baby grand pianos are forced to languish on the market for months, with nary a renter willing to sign a lease. Such a plight has befallen the Presidential Suite at The Surrey hotel on the Upper East Side, which has been in search of a $450,000/month renter since OCTOBER. A room in Bushwick gets snapped up six minutes after it's on Craigslist, but the Presidential Suite's classic claw-foot tubs have gone unbathed in for six months. WILL NO ONE THINK OF THE CLAW-FOOT TUBS?

According to a Street Easy listing, the 2800-square foot suite at 20 East 76th Street comes with all the necessary amenities, including a kitchen, living room, two bedrooms, three bathrooms, a formal dining room and a private terrace. The listing also notes that the suite boasts "[r]esidential-inspired details" like a fireplace, antique desk, sauna and walk-in closets "to reflect true Upper East Side living," though it seems a Barney's charge card and youthful cocaine addiction are not included.

The residence has been listed on Street Easy for 164 days, and has still not found the right Middle Eastern oil baron to put down a deposit, probably because they're all hanging "Home Sweet Tax Shelter" cross-stitches in Midtown condos. Plus, it's far less distinguished to be the second most expensive rental in the city, so mayhap it's time to add a second baby grand piano and up the price.
