A fourth Brooklyn man is being charged in the Islamic State recruitment plot that the feds say they thwarted back in February.
Uzbek national Dilkhayot Kasimov, held on immigration charges—it’s not clear where or when from an Associated Press report—supposedly copped to working with Abor Habibov to raise $1,600 to send Akhror Saidakhmetov to Syria to fight with the apocalypse-seeking group. Agents say Kasimov said he knew Saidakhmetov, 19, “might be” traveling to Syria, according to the AP. Habibov, who split his time between Brighton Beach and Florida, is a businessman and allegedly the main fundraiser.
Kasimov, a 26-year-old Brooklyn resident, was named in a court document filed on Monday in Brooklyn federal court, according to the New York Times. Also accused in the supposed jihadi ring is 24-year-old Abdurasul Juraboev, whose resume includes a stint at a Brooklyn Gyro King. Both of the latter two lived together in an apartment rented by Saidakhmetov’s mother, who at one point hid her son’s passport to try to stop his trip, according to the feds.
All four of the suspects have lived in Uzbekistan and all are Uzbek citizens except for Saidakhmetov, who hails originally from Kazakhstan.
Kasimov's arraignment is set for Wednesday.
