Beloved late night Belgian fry spot Pommes Frites was one of three restaurants destroyed in last week's deadly explosion on Second Avenue. Though there's no timeline for when they'll be back to slinging their addictive fried goodies, there's hope in sight in the form of a donation campaign to help the shop get back on its feet.
Owners Suzanne Levinson and Omer Shorshi posted a link to a Square-based donation page where fans can throw some money towards costs of rebuilding and rehoming the beleaguered shop. "Asking for help is not easy for us. We have been inundated with requests as to how we can get our doors open once again," they said. "Our steadfast staff, some of who experienced the explosion, want to get back to work."
It's still too soon to tell what will become of Sushi Park and Sam's Deli, which were also destroyed in the explosion and resulting blaze. Sarbjit Bring, one of my family members who ran Sam's Deli, told the Times "I have no money... everything is my store."

If you’re interested in donating money to help those affected by the East Village explosion, the Mayor’s Fund to Advance New York City is accepting donations. Checks should be made out to the NYC Mayor's Fund with a note that they are earmarked for the East Village Collapse. In kind donations are not being accepted at this time.
