Yesterday it was reported that a 22-year-old Italian model accused Harvey Weinstein of sexual assault, which she reported to the NYPD after the alleged incident last Friday. No charges have been filed yet, but there are some new details, as well as comment from Weinstein's camp.
According to the NY Times, Weinstein "voluntarily accompanied" police to be questioned... after detectives from the NYPD's Special Victims squad located him on Saturday. A rep for the Hollywood mogul, Ken Sunshine, has released this statement: "We are cooperating fully with the authorities and are confident that we will be fully vindicated. We will have no further comment."
Weinstein and the woman met at his New York Spring Spectacular show at Radio City Music Hall on Thursday, exchanged emails, and an audition was set up for Friday at Tribeca Film Center. The NYPD haven't released her name, but the tabloids have identified her.
Page Six reports:
"A stunning 22-year-old model with ties to former Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi told police she was molested by Weinstein during an audition in his Tribeca office... [she] was one of two models who witnessed one of Berlusconi’s infamous bunga-bunga orgies and offered testimony to Italian authorities.
She claimed [Weinstein] asked if [her breasts] were real... [he] then allegedly grabbed her breast, and she said, 'No, stop.' She claimed that Weinstein, 63, a married dad of five, then put his hand up her skirt and asked her for a kiss."
A source close to the producer told them, "We believe this is a blackmail attempt, and he did nothing wrong." The woman's lawyer responded, "There absolutely was no attempt of blackmail, and, in fact, making such a false allegation adds insult to injury causing a duplicity of victimization."
