Black tie blackout event Manhattan Cocktail Classic returns this May for four days of top notch tippling that you probably won't remember come morning. And while boozing with well-heeled strangers has become one of our favorite events over the past few years there's a bit of disappointment that accompanies this year's main event: it's not taking place at the New York Public Library's main branch, as it has for the past five years. The old gala's moving on to new spaces, thanks to a new leader at the helm, who's steered the ship down to Cipriani Wall Street for the festive Opening Night Gala and the newly minted Pier A Harbor House for its special Industry Night.
Though the Gala's location has changed, the song remains the same, namely an astounding amount of "spirits"—they poured 25,000 cocktails at last night's event—and lots of brand reps for established and up-and-coming hooch makers. Once you're good and liquored up, take a stroll around the space, which includes a restaurant and library (fitting), plus guests have access to a "secret subterranean level" that houses a billiards room, screening room and barber shop. Nothing like a spur of the moment haircut when you're three sheets to the wind.
Tickets for the Gala (May 16th) go on sale today at 4 p.m. and more announcements about special events are in the pipeline as well. RA $224.99 tickets snags you entry from 10 p.m. to 1 a.m. while $350 VIP tickets get you an extra hour of drinking before the GA riffraff gets let in. They're also promising a "surprise guest," most likely someone in the music biz like last year's DJ Questlove.
